REPORTS TO: Recycling Programs Manager
TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Part-time, hourly, 25-30 hours per week
PAY RATE: $12.50/hour; mileage reimbursement ($0.575 or current CA reimbursement rate)

The Hotline Assistant will perform various public service and administrative tasks related to I Love A Clean San Diego's (ILACSD), Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste Hotline and Online Database. Additionally, the Hotline Assistant will assist ILACSD’s Community Events & Programs Departments, and other Departments with various tasks as needed.


  • Respond to inbound recycling, household hazardous waste, and stormwater calls and requests from the public
  • Operate and update ILACSD's proprietary Recycling and Household Hazardous Waste online database
  • Operate a multi-line phone system, computers and computer programs and applications
  • Periodically check database for inaccuracies or inconsistencies in center listings.
  • Conduct call center administrative duties including appointment scheduling, call logs, mailings, publication inventory, and correspondence
  • Front desk duties including interacting with volunteers, clients, walk-ins, answering phones
  • Assist the Community Events & Programs Department including responding to volunteer inquiries, gathering supplies, checking in/out of volunteer kits and supplies
  • Attend organization events, booths, and cleanups
  • Assist other departments with tasks as needed
  • Other ILACSD supporting activities as necessary
  • Bilingual (English/ Spanish) preferred
  • Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County, especially waste and recycling issues

  • Must possess good phone and customer service skills
  • Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
  • High level of organization and attention to detail, savvy with technology
  • Multi-tasker and quick learner
  • Ability to work well independently and on a team
  • Knowledge of San Diego region (preferred)
  • Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County, especially waste and recycling issues

    ILACSD’s Program Assistant will support ILACSD’s Community Programs, Education, and Marketing departments to implement programs, events and activities. Duties will include attending events, booths, and cleanups throughout San Diego County.

    Pay rate $11.75 per hour
    Mileage reimbursement $0.575/mile (or at the current California reimbursement rate)
    Type of employment: Non-exempt hourly employee on as-needed basis

    Program Assistant responsibilities include the following:

  • Attend community cleanups and/or events throughout San Diego County
  • Support the maintenance and care of ILACSD resources, supplies, and equipment
  • Respond to ILACSD staff inquiries within 48 hours via phone or email (unless prior arrangements made)
  • Professional and accurate representation of ILACSD
  • Complete timecards and mileage reimbursement within biweekly due dates
  • Foster positive relationships within the community
  • Commit to increased hours during spring months March & April (Earth Month)
  • Other duties as assigned

  • College degree
  • Environmental background/experience (preferred)
  • Must have frequent access to email, required to respond to staff emails within 48 hours
  • Bi-lingual English/ Spanish (preferred)
  • Ability and willingness to educate, inspire, and empower
  • Effective communication skills and experience with diverse audiences
  • Comfortable speaking in front of large or small groups
  • Professional representation of ILACSD and its clientele
  • High level of organization and attention to detail
  • Ability to work weekends
  • Reliable transportation; ability and willingness to travel
