I Love A Clean San Diego is your go to place to learn how you can help enhance and conserve San Diego’s environment!
As San Diego’s longest running environmental nonprofit, I Love A Clean San Diego is a pioneering leader in encouraging environmental awareness close to home. Through recycling, education, and cleanups of our most beloved areas, we are the only community based organization dedicated to the future of the entire county – from inland to the coast.
While most known for its beach cleanups, our organization is deeply committed to serving its mission – educating the community to actively conserve and enhance the environment. By providing environmental education and outreach as opposed to advocacy and litigation, ILACSD is able to connect with thousands of youth and adults in the region.
We work to promote regional awareness of environmental issues including resource conservation, waste reduction and recycling, community enhancement, and pollution prevention.
I Love A Clean San Diego currently offers a variety of programs including:
- Environmental Education featuring classroom presentations and hands-on learning for children and teens, as well as a full slate of adult education activities designed for local businesses and community organizations. Environmental awareness topics include recycling, waste reduction, resource conservation, and pollution control.
- WasteFreeSd.org is our one stop recycling resource providing San Diegans with an online recycling database (www.wastefreesd.org) plus a bilingual hotline offering useful tips for safe disposal of paints and other household waste. Conveniently accessible information about waste disposal and recycling helps to prevent illegal dumping, stopping serious environmental problems before they happen.
- Community Cleanups repair environmental damage to beaches, canyons, rivers and other public spaces across San Diego County; thousands of volunteers donate their time while they have fun making a difference. Creek to Bay, our signature event, and Coastal Cleanup Day are two of the largest environmental volunteer events of the year. Our monthly community cleanups also bring people together to keep neighborhoods free of trash and other health risks. Additional activities include graffiti removal and stenciling no-dumping warnings on storm drains. ILACSD is also the San Diego coordinator of the statewide Adopt A Beach Program.
I Love A Clean San Diego emphasizes practical solutions rather than rhetoric. We are non-political and independent, looking after the future by focusing on what can be done here and now.
Founded as the San Diego War Against Litter Committee in 1954, I Love A Clean San Diego celebrates over 50 years of promoting environmental education and awareness in San Diego County. In the 1970s “I Love A Clean San Diego” was the slogan for the organization’s anti-litter campaign and in 1980 it became the organization’s name. In 1989, ILACSD merged with the San Diego Ecology Center, joining two leading environmental organizations together to better serve the community, under one name.
