The Director of Marketing & Communications will oversee all communications, digital representation, public relations, and brand management for I Love A Clean San Diego. This position is also responsible for the production and management of the organization’s overall marketing strategy, working in tandem with fundraising efforts, programs, and across all departments.


  • Bachelor’s in Marketing, Communications, Public Relations, or related field with 2 years minimum direct full-time work experience; management/supervision experience required
  • Experience in marketing and communications strategy, analytics and project management
  • Technology – Strong foundation in the following (or closely related) platforms: Mailchimp, WordPress, Adobe Creative Suite and/or Canva, Facebook, Instagram, Twitter, LinkedIn, Google Analytics, Google My Business and Classy. Must be familiar with editing and updating the CMS
  • Outstanding written and spoken communication skills – Associated Press writing style a plus
  • Creative thinker – provide practical solutions
  • Self-starter and independently motivated
  • Excellent organizational and time management skills
  • Ability to proactively and independently engage multiple, simultaneous projects and requirements/goals; high tolerance for shifting priorities

  • Nonprofit experience strongly preferred
  • Bilingual Spanish/English preferred

Marketing – 30%

  • Develop, implement, and evaluate the effectiveness of an annual marketing and communications plan in collaboration with the executive team
  • Design, create, and manage to completion all marketing production related efforts such as promotional items, printed collateral, multimedia collateral, and direct mail pieces
  • Analyze marketing data (campaign results, conversion rates, traffic ) to help shape future marketing strategies
  • Create compelling impact stories to share with volunteers, sponsors, media and others

Brand Development & Digital Communications – 30%

  • Oversee/provide input on the design and creation of all product, collateral, digital presence, and other outgoing communications, including annual reports, brochures, slide decks, flyers, volunteer emails, and programmatic artwork for use on websites, social media, and media packages
  • Manage external graphic design support as needed
  • Oversee execution of content development and distribution on all digital platforms, including monthly report generation for tracking and analysis of engagement rates
  • Lead implementation of refined newsletter communication strategy, properly segmenting audiences and promotional strategy to increase e-mail acquisition
  • Manage continuous improvement of current website(s) and project manage future site
  • Manage ILACSD merchandise design, purchasing, tracking, and inventory

Public Relations – 25%

  • Create and facilitate public relations opportunities, including TV, radio, and print
  • Coordinate media relations, including drafting press releases, corresponding with media, securing media at ILACSD’s events, media purchases, client meetings, and manage organization’s media
  • Report on organization’s reach, including tracking metrics on marketing campaign ROIs and news coverage throughout the year
  • Develop materials related to organizational strategy, including media outreach/advisories, press releases, executive speeches and presentations, and participating in industry events
  • In collaboration with development team, ensure funders such as corporate partners and foundations are recognized on the website, through social media and in newsletters/annual reports as appropriate

Administrative & Management – 15%

  • Supervision of a Marketing Coordinator, including coaching, performance assessment, professional development, workload management, administrative tasks, and hiring
  • Outline procedures for various departmental tasks including production and management of the organization’s overall marketing strategy, social media content creation, day-to-day operations, and prep for annual events
  • Create and monitor the annual marketing and communications budget
  • Report to the Executive Director and serve on the executive team; contribute to strategic conversations and decisions that advance the organization as a whole

  • Full-time / Exempt position
  • Salary range $65,000-75,000 DOE/NEG
  • Employer-sponsored health (HMO) and dental plans (PPO)
  • 403b plan with employer matching contribution after 90 days
  • Paid time off (PTO) plan (accrued beginning day 1, available for use after 90 days)
  • Generous paid holiday schedule
  • Office closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day
