POSITION SUMMARY:
The Outreach Assistant will support ILACSD by attending community booths, events, and cleanups throughout San Diego County to promote the organizations’ and partner’s programs, events, and activities. As an Outreach Assistant, you will be a public-facing representative, responsible for ensuring positive experiences, maintaining current environmental knowledge, and managing event information and materials. Event attendance includes set up, staffing, breakdown, and post-event supply return and reporting procedures. Events take place throughout San Diego County where the Outreach Assistant will engage with the public on a wide range of subjects including – but not limited to – San Diego’s zero waste efforts, waste recovery, organics recycling and watershed protection. The Outreach Assistant’s work schedule will be assigned based on programming, their communicated availability, and the minimum requirement of 2 – 3 events per month based on programming needs.

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Hourly, Non-exempt; Part Time; Out-of-Office Event Staff
PAY RATE: $18.00/HOUR and mileage reimbursement (at current CA rate)
RESPONSIBILITIES AND DUTIES INCLUDE:
Event Attendance (75%):
Staff events on behalf of ILACSD to engage and connect the public to relevant information and resources in a professional, personable manner
Conduct booth material tracking and surveying at some public events
Commit to recurring weekend availability and attend a minimum of 2-3 events per month, with an increased commitment during the months of March/April and July/August
Ensure the transport, set up, and return of ILACSD event materials such as tables, canopies, display boards – up to 50 lbs and 6ft long
Return materials within three business days in proper condition
Administration (15%):
Create a self-assigned schedule from pre-determined event list, with review of supervisor
Submit and report biweekly timecards and mileage to supervisor on time
Respond to ILACSD staff inquiries within 48 hours via email or phone (unless prior arrangements made)
Submit all required post-event paperwork and deliverables within 48-hours of event attendance
Other duties as assigned
Knowledge Accrual (10%):
Maintain up-to-date knowledge on the organization through attendance at bi-monthly meetings and additional trainings, as required
Attend regular trainings as provided to maintain working knowledge of booth materials and content, and current events and initiatives specific to San Diego’s environment.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS:
Environmental background/experience (preferred)
Regular weekend and evening availability
Experience in a public-facing position (one year+ preferred)
Reliable Transportation
Strong attention to detail and highly organized
Bi-lingual English/ Spanish (preferred)
Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County (preferred)
Effective communication skills and experience with diverse audiences
Comfortable speaking in front of large or small groups
Ability and willingness to educate, inspire, and empower others
Ability to move equipment weighing up to 50 lbs. to off-site locations and occasionally remain stationary for long periods at a time
Ability to work in various outdoor weather conditions and occasionally remote locations for extended periods
Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
Must have frequent access to email, required to respond to staff emails within 48 hours
