Join I Love A Clean San Diego and Think Blue San Diego for Storm Drain Stenciling Day! We will paint conservation messages on storm drains in communities across the City of San Diego.

What’s the deal with storm drains?

Did you know that storm drains are not connected to the sewer system? That means they are not treated and drain directly into our creeks, bays, lagoons and ultimately the ocean. Litter, debris, and pollutants are swept along with the water into the storm drains, polluting our waterways. Join us by using a stencil and spray paint to display pollution prevention messages such as “No dumping- goes to ocean!” above storm drains around our neighborhoods. By doing so, you are educating the public that no pollutants or trash should go down the drains and into the ocean!

What’s the deal with this event?

We are hosting Storm Drain Stenciling Day City-wide! This year your group can pick-up a kit from our office before the event and use it to stencil drains wherever you like in the City of San Diego! We’d like to spread the love around, so you can stencil drains in your neighborhood or somewhere that means a lot to you.

Check out past volunteers in action!

Your mission: Pick-up your kit from our office before the event, stencil 10 drains in your neighborhood with your group on December 4, and report your totals to help us protect our watersheds!

How does it work?

1. Sign-up for this stenciling event below! When you sign-up, you will automatically have 1 kit reserved for your group (2 kits will automatically be reserved for groups of 10+).

Each kit is good for 3-5 volunteers (or 8-10 trading-off in a group) and includes disposable bags and gloves to pick-up litter while stenciling drains. Another volunteer can track drains using the GIS reporting tool on a smart phone.

2. You’ll receive a confirmation e-mail with a link to schedule your stenciling kit pick-up from our office the week before the event.

3. On Saturday, December 4, walk around your neighborhood (or a neighborhood of choice) and paint a conservation message on drains you come across. You can use our awesome GIS reporting tool to log your drains in real time from your smartphone, and you can pick up litter while you travel for an extra-beneficial sweep.

4. Immediately after your event swing by and drop your kit back off at our office!
