Kids Ocean Day San Diego 2021 Art Contest
K-12 student can submit their art work to be included in a mosaic for World Ocean Day

Kids Ocean Day is a comprehensive environmental education program. For over 20 years tens of thousands of students have participated in live beach events and Aerial Art. This year, students’ personal artwork will make up the international mosaic. Five finalists will be selected from San Diego to move on to the state-wide contest. The winning artwork will serve as the main image for the 2021 Picture Mosaic and Animation Video. All finalists will receive special prizes. The winner will be announced for WORLD OCEAN DAY!

Submissions begin: March 8, 2021

K-12 students can submit one original artwork.

The following types of Artworks will be accepted: Drawings — Paintings — Sculpture — Weaving (Photography as a form of art will not be accepted)

Submissions due: May 26, 2021

Because the Attorneys Said So … Please Read
I hereby grant and assign to the California Coastal Commission (CCC) the non-exclusive right and permission to use, re-use, publish, re-publish, and otherwise reproduce and display the original artwork that I have submitted to the CCC, individually or in conjunction with other original artwork, in any and all media, for any purpose whatsoever; and to include the artist’s name and grade level to identify the work. I hereby release and discharge the CCC, I Love A Clean San Diego, Orange County Coastkeeper, The Malibu Foundation, Marine Science Institute, Friends of the Dunes, Spectral Q, Global Ocean Health, Picture Mosaic, and any of their respective employees, officers, agents, or assigns from any and all claims and demands arising out of or in connection with the use of the original artwork or writing, including without limitations any and all claims for libel or invasion of privacy.
In any of the winning categories, the CCC maintains the exclusive right to declare no winner and withhold prizes. The CCC assumes no responsibility for lost or damaged poetry or artwork. The CCC may sell, assign, license, or otherwise transfer all rights granted to it hereunder.
I have read the foregoing and fully understand the contents thereof. This release shall be binding upon me and my heirs, legal representatives, and assigns. I further release the CCC from any responsibility for injury incurred during the research or production of the original artwork.
I, being the parent or guardian of the above-named minor, consent to and join in the foregoing release and consent on behalf of said minor.
If, I the student, am at least 18 years old, I consent on my own behalf.
I, being the teacher of the above-named student, declare that I have received release and consent from the parent or guardian of the above-named student, and will provide proof of consent to the California Coastal Commission.
If my child or student is a winner or honorable mention in this contest, I consent to have their city publicized along with name and grade level.
Pledge of Originality:
In order to be eligible for the Kids Ocean Day Art Contest 2021, submitted artwork must be original work. The artwork cannot be traced from other artwork or photography or be a digital alteration of an image created by someone else. If you use an image created by someone else (a photo of an animal, for example) as a model for your entry, your artwork must be significantly different to avoid plagiarism. No hands other than your own may be involved in the creation of the artwork.
