Too Good To Waste: Food Recovery Workshop

Learn to reduce your food waste and divert organic waste from our local landfills! Join I Love A Clean San Diego for our free Too Good To Waste: Food Recovery Workshop at Lindo Lake County Park on Saturday, March 16, at 10 a.m. During this workshop, we’ll cover:

 

  • Tips to reduce waste when grocery shopping, cooking, and storing food
  • Different styles of composting
  • Why it’s so important to keep organic waste out of the landfill
  • How to properly dispose of food waste through the curbside organic waste recycling program

 

Attendees will have the opportunity to make and take home a vermicomposting bin during the workshop – all supplies will be provided to start easily composting at home! Please note that supplies are limited to one bin per household, with priority given to residents of the unincorporated County of San Diego.

Step Up Your Sustainability Webinar

Whether you’re just starting out on your zero waste journey or you’re looking to level up your sustainable lifestyle, join I Love A Clean San Diego on Tuesday, January 30, at 1 p.m. for our free Step Up Your Sustainability webinar! We’ll cover how to create zero waste habits in your current routines, how to repurpose old items with new uses, and how to properly dispose of the waste you do produce! More specifically:

  • Eco-friendly product swaps
  • DIY recipes
  • How to compost without an outdoor space
  • Low waste habits for pets, hobbies, and your home

Watershed Warriors: Pine Valley – Pine Valley Village

Join I Love A Clean San Diego and the County of San Diego for a litter cleanup! We will divert litter from our watersheds and keep it from traveling to the Pacific Ocean.

Our staff will have check-in ready for you on site. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes, some form of sun protection (sunscreen or a hat) and bring a water bottle or two! Staff will be providing everything else you will need!

Join I Love A Clean San Diego and the County of San Diego for a litter cleanup! We will divert litter from our watersheds and keep it from traveling to the Pacific Ocean.

Our staff will have check-in ready for you on site. Be sure to wear comfortable clothes, closed-toed shoes, some form of sun protection (sunscreen or a hat) and bring a water bottle or two! Staff will be providing everything else you will need!

Green Routines Webinar

If you’re looking to eliminate waste from your daily routine, join I Love A Clean San Diego for our free Green Routines Webinar on Wednesday, November 1 at 5 p.m.

During this one-hour webinar, we’ll cover:

  • Zero waste practices to adopt in the kitchen, bathroom, laundry room and home common areas
  • Sustainable product swaps
  • Recommendations for local zero waste businesses and shops
  • Recipes for DIY zero waste cleaning and personal care products

The founders of Scisters Salon and Apothecary, a local zero waste salon and refill shop, will be joining as our guest speakers to share more about their zero waste journeys in their business and personal lives.

Sustainable Saturday at Valley Center Library

Join us for Sustainable Saturday at Valley Center Library – a morning of activities to help us all be more sustainable! Join us at 9 a.m. for a litter cleanup around the Valley Center neighborhood, and/or 10 a.m. for a Swap Party and Fix-It-Clinic in the Library. There will also be resource booths with County information about recycling, composting, and more!

    • 9 a.m. – 11 a.m. Watershed Warriors Valley Center Cleanup (Registration Encouraged): We will be set-up with a check-in table and cleanup supplies at the Valley Center Library. Join us at 9 a.m. to grab supplies and help us clean up to protect the San Luis Rey watershed! After the cleanup, you can get service credit in your Community Hub dashboard.     • 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Clothing Swap: Update your wardrobe before the summer season and help divert textile waste from our local landfills! Bring your gently used clothing items to exchange them for other items at no cost. By participating in the swap you will be 👉 Helping to conserve natural resources 👉 Reducing the environmental footprint of producing new goods 👉 Building community.     • 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. SD Fixit Clinic (Registration strongly encouraged): Bring your broken, non-working items—electronics, appliances, computers, toys, bicycles, clothes, and more—for assessment, disassembly, and possible repair. We’ll provide workspace, specialty tools, and guidance to help you take apart and troubleshoot your item. Even if we can’t fix it, you’ll learn more about how it was made and how it works.     • 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Seed Bombs Workshop and Seed Library hosted by The Valley Center Library
    • 10 a.m. – 1 p.m. Community Resources: Check-out our information tables to learn more about recycling, composting, and wellness resources available to County residents!

A few things to keep in mind:

    • You can attend any or all of these activities – separate or together, whatever you have time and interest for! The cleanup will kick-off at 9 a.m. outside the library, and the Swap Party, Fix-It-Clinic, and resource booths will be kicking off around 10 a.m. inside the library.
    • We ask that you register for the Cleanup and for the SD Fixit Clinic, so we can be prepared with supplies, tools, and volunteer experts to help with breaking down broken appliances. You can register for each event by following the links above, or clicking “Register” below. No registration needed for any of the other activities – but we encourage you to bring some lightly used items for the Swap Party!

Organics Recycling Webinar – Out of the Black Bin and Into the Green Bin!

Did you know that 40 percent of the food grown, processed and transported in the U.S. currently goes to waste? The County of San Diego’s new curbside organics recycling program seeks to divert this waste from our landfills and turn it into compost and mulch.

 

Join I Love A Clean San Diego, in partnership with the County of San Diego, on Thursday, November 3rd from 5pm-6pm for our free Organics Recycling webinar! Come ready to learn ways to reduce food waste and how to recycle right in the kitchen. We’ll share tips on meal prepping, food storage, low-waste cooking, and how to properly dispose of food waste through the County’s new curbside organics recycling program. Discover what types of waste can be put in organics recycling bins, and why it is so important to keep organic waste from reaching the landfill. You’ll leave with the tools you need to stop wasting food (and money) in your home!

Watershed Warriors: Casa De Oro Community Cleanup

Join I Love A Clean San DiegoCasa De Oro Alliance, and the County of San Diego for a litter cleanup in Casa De Oro! We will divert litter from the Sweetwater Watershed and keep it from traveling to the Pacific Ocean.

Our staff will be set-up with a check-in table and supplies at Estrella County Park. Join us at 9am for a talk by our Education Team about our watersheds and recycling right, then grab supplies and help us clean up!

This event requires a signed release-of-liability waiver for all volunteers, and anyone under 18 needs a waiver signed by a guardian.
