Community Cleanup

Join I Love A Clean San Diego, San Diego Canyonlands, and Think Blue San Diego for a virtually-hosted litter cleanup in the Manzanita Canyon neighborhood! We will pick-up litter from the community and divert it from the canyons and Pacific Ocean.

These cleanups are currently virtually-hosted; we are not gathering or meeting in a specific location. Instead, you can do a fun and flexible cleanup on your terms. If you choose to join us physically in this community, we will have a staging table in the community. You can stop by to say hi and grab some disposable supplies, and clean up nearby.

Invite your neighbors and practice social distancing. Bring a bucket and gardening gloves from home, and wear your face-covering. You can make this cleanup zero-waste by using your own supplies!

Watch the kick-off video you get in your e-mail, then clean up in the neighborhood and use your household cans for disposal. Afterwards, log your totals and request a Letter of Appreciation for your service – it’s that easy!

Clean Canyons for a Clean Coast Virtual Cleanup – City Heights

city_heights_canyon

Did you know that 80% of coastal debris stems from inland sources? Protect San Diego’s canyons and waterways at I Love A Clean San Diego’s Clean Canyons for a Clean Coast virtual cleanup in City Heights! We will be working with our friends at San Diego Canyonlands and San Diego District 9 Community Cleanups to support our volunteers where they need it most. Hosted in partnership with the California Coastal Commission’s Adopt-A-Beach Program, this cleanup will help remove litter and debris from entering our oceans by collecting it at an inland location. With your help, we can eliminate trash and waste before they pollute our ocean and help protect and preserve the natural state of canyons in City Heights!

City Heights residents will sign up on the Community Hub as a household (or individuals) to walk their block OR at Litter Hotspots in one of the 16 City Heights neighborhoods to clean up. Please clean up only in your neighborhood and at your requested location to avoid gathering and stay safe. Please refrain from participating if you do not live in City Heights to limit external travel and the spread of COVID-19.

As a virtual cleanup, there will not be a main meeting point – you will simply clean up in your neighborhood or Litter Hotspot between 8am and 11am. Note that this is a street cleanup only; do not enter into nearby canyons as volunteer activity in City of San Diego canyons is currently restricted. Volunteers will be asked to report their cleanup details via a simple online survey after the event so we can track each household’s impact.

We provide community service hours and Letters of Appreciation for volunteers. This is a great opportunity for students and families to learn ways to protect our local environment! This event also qualifies for the VOLUNTEER rocker in the 2020 patch set! Details on how to request these items will be sent after the event to registered volunteers.

Supplies will not be provided for this event. Volunteers are asked to use their own reusable and repurposed items such as buckets, grocery bags, work/garden/dish gloves, and refillable water bottles to promote zero waste practices and help us in our mission to have a zero waste, litter free and environmentally engaged San Diego region!

Registration available on our Community Hub – get ready and activate or create your account and register for your neighborhood using the register button below!
