Save Your Scraps Workshop

Learn to reduce your food waste and help divert organic waste from our local landfills! Join I Love A Clean San Diego for our free Save Your Scraps workshop at the Alta Vista Botanical Gardens on Saturday, August 24 at 10:30 a.m. During this workshop, we’ll cover:

 

  • How to reduce food waste when grocery shopping and cooking
  • The pros and cons of different styles of composting
  • Why it’s so important to keep organic waste out of landfills
  • How to properly dispose of food waste through the curbside organic recycling program

 

Attendees will have the opportunity to make and take home a vermicomposting bin during the workshop – all supplies will be provided to start easily composting at home! Please note that supplies are limited to one bin per household, with priority given to residents of the City of Vista.

Green Routines Workshop

Join I Love A Clean San Diego for our free Green Routines Workshop on Saturday, May 7th from 10am to 12pm at Live Oak County Park! Whether you’re just starting out on your zero waste journey or you’re looking to level up your sustainable lifestyle, this workshop will cover a wide variety of zero waste practices you can adopt in your kitchen, bathroom, office and home common areas. We’ll also talk about the environmental impacts of fast fashion, how to make your laundry routine more sustainable, and green cleaning products.

Attendees will have the opportunity to make DIY zero waste cleaning and personal care products to take home, and we will also have our Swap and Shop booth open anyone who wants to browse through secondhand clothes, books, toys and other trinkets!

This event will be held in person at Live Oak County Park in Fallbrook, please register to attend and receive further details. Thank you to the County of San Diego for partnering on this event. We can’t wait to see you there on May 7th!

Join I Love A Clean San Diego as we team up with the City of San Diego for our FREE Green Routines Workshop on Saturday, March 14, 2020 from 10AM-12PM at City Farmers Nursery (3110 Euclid Ave, San Diego, CA 92105). Whether you’re starting your zero waste journey or ready to take it to the next level, come learn how to set yourself up for zero waste success!

Through educational booths and hands-on activities, you will learn ways to go zero waste in the kitchen and bathroom, and common areas throughout the home. We will discuss the importance of a zero waste lifestyle and how to confidently implement sustainable practices into various aspects of your life.

Hands-on activities will be available for all ages, including an eco-kid’s craft and a make-and-take project!

Make and Take: DIY Toothpaste or Lip Balm
Kid’s Craft: Make your own binoculars!
Raffle Prizes: Stasher Bag, Dr. Bronners soap

In addition, attendees can bring in gently used items you were planning to donate and participate in the Swap ‘n’ Shop! Participants can exchange or donate those items giving them a second life and keeping them out of the landfill. Some example items that have been brought to past workshops include clothes, nail polish, stereos, pet supplies, books, CD’s, picture frames, kitchenware, Halloween costumes, etc.

Virtual Adventures in Sustainability Workshop

Join I Love A Clean San Diego and the City of Encinitas for our FREE Adventures in Sustainability Virtual Workshop, focusing on how to put your passion for sustainability into action from the comfort of your own home!

This virtual workshop will be held via Zoom meeting; register to be provided with the link!

On Saturday May 2, 2020 from 10AM-11AM on Zoom, we will be hosting the last workshop of a three part series. Learn how to fold sustainability practices into your closet, pet care, and even social occasions! Host a party, give gifts, and even care for your pet in a more environmentally conscious way. Save Your Scraps Organics Workshop

Join I Love A Clean San Diego and the City of Encinitas for our FREE Save Your Scraps Organics Workshop on Saturday, March 7th from 10AM-12PM at the EUSD Farm Lab in Encinitas (441 Quail Gardens Dr. Encinitas, CA 92024). Learn how to keep organics out of the landfill by shopping smart, storing food properly, and composting your scraps. We’ll also cover water conservation tools, such as ocean friendly gardens and laundry-to-landscape systems. Activities include making vermicomposting bins and a kids’ craft corner.

Hands-on activities will be available for all ages, including an eco kid’s craft and a make-and-take project!

Make and Take: DIY vermicompost bins
Eco Kid’s Craft: Coloring “Eat me First” signs
Raffle Prizes: Stasher Bag, Lotus Trolley Produce Bags

In addition to the workshop, participate in the community Swap ‘n Shop – a free item exchange table! Bring items and take items, it’s as simple as that! Example items that have been brought to past workshops include: clothes, nail polish, stereos, pet supplies, books, CD’s, picture frames, kitchen ware, Halloween costumes, etc.

At the end of the workshop, 25 participants will be able to create and take home a fully-functioning vermicomposting bin (composting with worms). Please indicate your interest in your registration. Participants will be added on a first come, first serve basis. Due to supply restrictions, we are limited to 25 participants. Please limit one per household.

Join I Love A Clean San Diego as we team up with the County of San Diego for our FREE Adventures in Sustainability Workshop, focusing on how to put your passion into action while you are in action as well!

On Saturday February 22nd, 2020 from 10AM-12PM at the Water Conservation Garden (12122 Cuyamaca College Dr W, El Cajon, CA 92019) we will be hosting the last workshop of a three part series. Learn how to fold sustainability practices in to everyday hobbies, chores, and even social occasions! Host a party, give gifts, travel in confidence, and even care for your pet in a more environmentally conscious way. Join I Love A Clean San Diego in spreading sustainability through conversation, action, and passion!

Hands-on activities will be available for all ages, including an eco kid’s craft and a make-and-take project!

Join I Love A Clean San Diego as we partner with Scisters Salon and San Diego State University Institute for Ethics and Public Affairs to welcome Bea Johnson, the creator of the zero waste lifestyle movement, to San Diego!

Get outside for a cleanup with Bea in the morning, and later that evening come out to SDSU for a lecture and Q&A delivered by the “priestess of zero waste” herself!
