REPORTS TO: Youth Education Manager

TYPE OF EMPLOYMENT: Full time, Non-Exempt, Partially Remote

ILACSD’s Education Department is hiring for two (2) Education Coordinator positions- one for middle and high school programs, and the other for elementary programs. Each Education Coordinator shall be responsible for supporting the Education Department in implementing its K-12 environmental education presentations and programs. This staff member will market and schedule presentations and programs with local teachers and schools in order to fulfill ILACSD contracts and grants.

SPECIFIC DUTIES

  • Coordinate and implement contract and grant programs within ILACSD’s Education Department
  • Research, schedule, and market approximately 1,000 youth education presentations and programs as part of the Youth Education Coordinator team
  • Manage the Education Department calendar to schedule programs
  • Monitor, track, and report scheduled and delivered programs toward achievement of goals and objectives
  • Prepare communications and write and edit documents, such as emails and other correspondence, as well as reports and instructional documents
  • Develop and nourish positive relationships with stakeholders, including teachers, school administrators, community groups/organizations, civic organizations, clubs, corporations, and governmental agencies
  • Recruit new program participants (above mentioned stakeholders) from within contract and grant guidelines
  • Deliver engaging, informative educational presentations to K-12 classrooms, assemblies, and adult groups throughout San Diego County on stormwater pollution prevention, watershed education, zero waste, and recycling, among others
  • Teach approximately two to three (2-3) days per week; volume dependent on time of year and team needs. The majority of programs are held during the school day, with occasional after-school or evening programs
  • Distribute and collect teacher evaluations, student surveys, handouts, and any follow-up materials
  • Synthesize data and conduct analysis for evaluations to document program impacts
  • Support all-staff and Education Department events (Kids’ Ocean Day, Zero Waste Workshops and Webinars, countywide cleanups, etc.)
  • Other duties as assigned to support the ILACSD team 

POSITION REQUIREMENTS

  • Reliable transportation; ability and willingness to travel
  • Flexible daily start and end times, dependent on scheduled presentations
  • Ability to work weekends and/or evenings
  • Microsoft Office proficiency (especially PowerPoint and Excel)
  • Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
  • Ability to pass a background check prior to employment
  • Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

QUALIFICATIONS

  • Experience as an educator (environmental education experience preferred); administrative and/or program coordination experience
  • Ability to educate, inspire, and empower groups of all sizes, ages, and demographics in a wide variety of settings
  • Positive and dynamic interpersonal skills
  • Effective communication skills for diverse audiences, including strong writing and public speaking skills
  • Excellent organizational, recordkeeping, and time management skills; strong attention to detail
  • Ability to proactively engage multiple, simultaneous projects and requirements/goals
  • Forward thinker with capability to effectively stream-line processes
  • Flexibility; ability to assess and adjust priorities with changing requirements
  • Commitment to working in a team environment and ability to work independently
  • Knowledge and/or willingness to learn about stormwater pollution prevention and waste diversion, plus a commitment to live a zero waste lifestyle

COMPENSATION & BENEFITS

  • $18 per hour
  • Mileage reimbursement ($0.625 or current CA reimbursement rate)
  • Paid time off (PTO) plan  Half day of paid time off on employee’s birthday
