ZERO WASTE OUTREACH COORDINATOR (Part-time)

Part-Time, Non-Exempt
15-25 hours per week
Flexible work schedule possibility
Available 3 weekdays during and one weekend day; ideal availability Tuesdays, Wednesdays, Thursdays, and Saturdays

PAY RATE:

$17.00 per hour

The Zero Waste Outreach Coordinator will lead I Love A Clean San Diego’s waste diversion residential and business outreach and support its school and business recycling and waste diversion programs. Programming involves planning and executing zero waste programming centered on reuse and repair principles, recycling, and organics waste diversion. This community outreach role will involve elements of environmental field marketing such as promoting zero waste programming, organizing and hosting in-person events.

SPECIFIC DUTIES
• Implement reuse and repair zero waste programming including planning, coordinating events with subcontractors, community organizations, local businesses, and residents
• Lead waste management, zero waste, and food waste outreach in the community in multi-family residences, single-family residences, and commercial businesses settings using a door to door outreach approach
• Team member must be fluent in English, but also be able to fluently speak and write in Spanish, Tagalog, or Vietnamese in order to have advanced conversations and translate documents with the ability to explain recycling and government requirements, programs and scientific terms
• Deliver webinars on business sustainability topics
• Attend organization events, booths, and cleanups as needed – a minimum a 3 weekend events per month
• Support WasteFreeSD call center
• Assist other departments as needed including general office tasks and outreach events, as needed
• Foster positive relationships with residents and businesses who can assist ILACSD in fulfilling its mission
• Generate monthly and ongoing contract reports
• Other ILACSD supporting activities as necessary

POSITION REQUIREMENTS
• Reliable transportation; ability and willingness to travel and transport supplies
• Flexible daily start and end times, dependent on outreach activities – Flexible schedule to cover weekend events and intermittent after business hours outreach (3:00 PM – 8:30 PM)
• Ability to work regular weekend events
• Proof of COVID-19 vaccination
• Ability to pass a background check prior to employment
• Bilingual (e.g.: English / Spanish, English / Tagalog, English / Vietnamese) Language fluency assessment will be included in the screening process.
• Have access to a cell phone and frequent access to a computer, required to respond to staff emails within 48 hours. Complete timecards and mileage reimbursement within biweekly and monthly due dates.

QUALIFICATIONS
• Extremely proficient with Microsoft Office, especially Excel and Word
• Excellent organizational and time management skills; ability to multi-task
• Ability to educate, inspire, and empower audiences of all demographics
• Effective communication and behavior management skills for diverse audiences
• Experience in environmental science, natural science, or related field preferred
• Commitment to working in a team environment and independently
• Professional representation of ILACSD in all settings
• Knowledge of environmental challenges facing San Diego County, waste diversion, and zero waste lifestyles
• Project management
• Marketing and outreach skills
• Good customer service skills

COMPENSATION AND BENEFITS
• $17 per hour
• Mileage reimbursement ($0.56 or current CA reimbursement rate)
• Paid time off (PTO) plan
• Office closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day
• Hybrid in-office/remote work schedule dependent on position
